Devido à localização precisa do novo projecto, Sul de Portugal, decidiu-se amarrar a linguagem do novo edificado a uma espécie de “identidade mediterrânica”. Com isto, a intenção do projecto passou por clarificar uma série de características, ou constantes desta linguagem, já muito reutilizada e reinterpretada por vários arquitectos ao longo da história da arquitectura. Podemos começar por introduzir, que estas construções têm uma presença constante ao longo da costa mediterrânica, e são quase sempre compostas por volumes primários, cujas superfícies podem ter pequenas variantes.
The new project is in the south of Portugal, so it was decided to connect the language of the new building to a kind of “Mediterranean” identity. The first intention of the project was to clarify a series of characteristics of this language, already much reused and reinterpreted by several architects throughout the history of architecture. We can say that these constructions have a constant presence along the Mediterranean coast, and are almost always composed of primary volumes, which may have small variations.

Estes volumes são pontualmente escavados por portas e janelas de largura e altura muito precisas, com incrível mestria e inteligência, demonstrando uma escala humana muito controlada. A principal finalidade destes vãos é a de proteger o interior dos espaços do excesso de sol, característico do clima dos países do Sul, no entanto, é comum existirem elementos que filtram a luz, como portadas ou alpendres, que controlam o excesso de iluminação sem privar a vista da paisagem exterior.
These volumes are punctually excavated by doors and windows of very precise width and height, with incredible mastery and intelligence, demonstrating a very controlled human scale. The main purpose of these openings is to protect the interior of the spaces from the excess sun, characteristic of the climate of the South, however, it is common to see elements that filter the light, such as shutters or porches, which control the excess of lighting without depriving the view of the outside landscape.
